About the Data4Healthcare Programme

The Data4Healthcare programme is designed to train 25 postdoctoral researchers in cutting-edge big data technologies and their application in healthcare. Hosted at the University of Oulu, this interdisciplinary research programme brings together over 70 research groups across four faculties, collaborating with both academic and non-academic partners. The programme focuses on translating big data into practical healthcare solutions and fostering intersectoral collaboration.

The research is conducted within the OuluHealth ecosystem, which includes the world’s smartest hospital and strong expertise in eHealth and ICT. The programme is designed to advance healthcare research using large molecular data, and offers secondment opportunities at collaborating organizations.

Key Responsibilities

📊 Data Analysis & Research
Analyze large-scale genomic and clinical datasets to uncover valuable insights into health problems, and help to identify genotype-phenotype relationships. Develop innovative computational methods to interpret and integrate these complex data.

🔧 Tool & Resource Development
Develop new bioinformatics tools and data processing pipelines. Optimize and ensure their scalability to meet the needs of healthcare research.

🤝 Collaboration & Communication
Work with interdisciplinary teams—including experts in eHealth, ICT, and molecular data—to bring fresh solutions to healthcare challenges. Present findings at international conferences and contribute to high-impact publications.

Who Are We Looking For?

We’re looking for enthusiastic candidates who meet the following criteria:
🎓 Educational Background: A PhD or the successful completion of your doctoral thesis by the time of application.
🌍 Mobility Requirement: Applicants should not have resided or worked in Finland for more than 12 months in the past 36 months.
🗣️ Language Proficiency: Proficiency in English is required, and official documents will need to be provided.
🔍 Research Interests: You should have a strong interest in using big data, machine learning, and AI to address challenges in healthcare, eHealth, or related fields.


Salary & Benefits

💶 Salary: Starting gross salary of €4000/month.
✈️ Travel: Researchers are entitled to up to €1200 in travel expenses annually.
🏥 Health Insurance: University of Oulu offers comprehensive occupational health insurance.
💼 Work Flexibility: Full-time, flexible working hours, with a trial period of 6 months.
