About the Buettner Lab

Join the Research Group “Machine Learning in Oncology” led by Prof. Dr. Florian Buettner at our Frankfurt/Mainz partner site and the Goethe University Frankfurt. Our lab (Explore Our Work) sits at the intersection of machine learning and oncology, driving original research to accelerate personalized cancer treatments.

Your Role

  • Innovative Research: Develop interpretable deep probabilistic machine learning models for integrating multimodal data.
  • Collaborative Projects: Partner with experimental and clinical experts from Mainz and Heidelberg to advance mRNA technology.
  • Impactful Outcomes: Expand mRNA applications beyond vaccines, uncover pathways influencing therapy resistance, and drive personalized immunological interventions.

What We’re Looking For

  • Educational Background: Master’s degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Bioinformatics, Mathematics, Physics, Data Science, Computational Biology, or a related field.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in machine learning methods, statistics, and programming languages like Python or R. Knowledge of probabilistic modeling and Bayesian methods is a plus.
  • Additional Assets: Experience with bioinformatics algorithms, software development best practices, and Linux environments.
  • Soft Skills: Excellent English communication abilities and a collaborative spirit to work effectively with a diverse team of researchers and clinicians.
