About the Project:
The PRIME-ED project focuses on utilizing prime editing technology to introduce precise DNA modifications in barley for enhancing agronomic traits. The project will be conducted in collaboration with IPK Gatersleben (Dr. Jochen Kumlehn). Key methods include molecular cloning, 2-D modeling, protoplast transfection, stable transformation, deep-sequencing, and phenotyping.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Designing and producing vector modules for prime editing components.
  • Establishing and optimizing prime editing configurations for barley.
  • Conducting molecular cloning, RNA optimization, and cell culture studies.
  • Performing phenotyping and microscopic analyses.
  • Presenting research findings at seminars and conferences.
  • Preparing reports and publications.
  • Completing a doctoral dissertation during the project.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Master’s degree (or equivalent) in Biology, Biochemistry, or related fields.
  • Strong interest in molecular genetics and plant biotechnology.
  • Excellent knowledge of molecular and cell biology.
  • Practical experience in molecular biology techniques.
  • Additional experience in project-specific methods (preferred).
  • Excellent English communication skills (written and spoken).
  • High motivation, team spirit, and enthusiasm for applied science.
