The Institute for Bioengineering of Catalonia (IBEC) is offering an exciting Postdoctoral Research Position in the Microenvironments for Medicine Group. This role focuses on developing novel hydrogels with dynamic physicochemical properties for 3D mechanotransduction studies in tissue engineering.

This is a fully funded, two-year contract, providing an opportunity to work in a high-impact, interdisciplinary research environment at one of Europe’s leading bioengineering institutes.

🔬 About the Research Project

The Microenvironments for Medicine Group at IBEC focuses on developing advanced biomaterials for tissue engineering and mechanobiology. This postdoctoral project will involve:

Designing and synthesizing dynamic hydrogels with light-tunable or DNA-based properties
Characterizing the structural and mechanical properties of biomaterials
Exploring cellular mechanotransduction in 3D microenvironments
Working at the interface of chemistry, biology, and bioengineering
Collaborating with international researchers to translate findings into applications

📍 Position Details

  • Location: Institute for Bioengineering of Catalonia (IBEC), Barcelona, Spain
  • Start Date: May 2025

  • Working Hours: 37.5 hours per week
  • Funding: Fully funded by IBEC

🎓 Who Should Apply?

Eligibility Criteria:

✔️ PhD in Chemistry, Bioengineering, or a related field
✔️ Expertise in polymer chemistry and hydrogel synthesis
✔️ Proficiency in advanced material characterization techniques (e.g., AFM, rheology, nanoindentation)
✔️ Strong background in bioengineering and biomaterials
✔️ Fluency in English (spoken & written)

Preferred Skills (Meritorious):

🔹 Knowledge of cell culture techniques and mechanotransduction studies
🔹 Experience with analytical chemistry and organic synthesis
🔹 Strong publication record in high-impact journals
🔹 Ability to work in a multidisciplinary research team
